What happens after 15th November?

Another international break is upon us, so we get a brief break before the busy holiday season arrives for football fans. The Bees have reached this point of the season with an even record of 5 wins, 5 losses and a draw which lands them 12th in the table. It's a closely packed table this season – the Bees are only 3 points out of 4th place, while also being only 6 points out of the relegation zone. Bees United recently published an article about the 15th of November and its significance in the recent history of the club – here we take a different perspective on the same mid-November date.

How does the team's position on 15th November compare to recent seasons?

Looking back across both Championship and Premier League seasons since 2015, the Bees' median position in the league table on 15th November is 11. So this season, they're very close to the median as they currently sit 12th.

What does that mean for the rest of the season?

During the Championship era, the Bees improved their ranking from 15th November through the end of the season every season, often by a large margin (6 positions in 2019-20 and 8 positions in 2020-21).

In the Premier League, the results have been more mixed, but they've generally stayed consistent or made marginal gains. 2023-24 proved to be an especially difficult season for the Bees as they faced many serious injuries, with practically every player missing extended stretches, and striker Ivan Toney served the rest of his ban. That season, they dropped from 11th to 16th.

While no team is immune from injuries, the Bees squad has significantly more depth now than they had in 2023-24, so they should be able to weather that storm, should it come. History would then suggest that the Bees are unlikely to finish lower than 12th, but they're also unlikely to move up more than a position or two.

What's next?

The Bees are about to enter their busiest stretch of the season with at least 16 matches in the next two months. First up is Brighton away this weekend. The Bees will see both ends of the table in their next few weeks, with both title contenders and relegation candidates up. Many Bees fans will be looking forward to the Carabao Cup quarter-final match-up against Manchester City on 17th December.

The league table should be much clearer by the time we reach the next international break. Until then, COYB!
