End-of-season Brentford player review, 2024-25

End-of-season Brentford player review, 2024-25

Brentford's 2024-25 season has wrapped up. It was a successful season, a strong bounce back from a challenging 2023-24 campaign. In this report, we'll provide brief summaries of the players who played for the Bees throughout the season.

Team Roster

1

Mark Flekken

Ever-present and cool under pressure, Flekken was one of the busiest keepers in the league.

37 starts, 2 assists, league-leading 150 saves and 1498 pass attempts.

2

Aaron Hickey

Suffered injury setbacks throughout the season, but fought back to play (and score) with the B Team, and then to be named to the squad for the final game of the season.

576 days between appearances in the Bees match day squad.

3

Rico Henry

Like Hickey, suffered multiple injury setbacks. Was welcomed back to chants of 'Rico, Rico' every time he warmed up or came onto the pitch.

5 appearances off the bench for a total of 99 minutes. Combined 500 minutes over the past 2 seasons.

4

Sepp van den Berg

Made an immediate impact in the team and plays with composure beyond his years.

Started 29 of the 32 games he was available for.

5

Ethan Pinnock

Started the season strong, but failed to return to top form after a mid-season injury forced him out of the lineup.

142 clearances (2nd best on the team) and 2 goals (tied for best among defenders).

6

Christian Norgaard

Perhaps his strongest season yet at both ends of the pitch, supporting his defenders and being a threat on set pieces.

5 goals, a career best. Bees only averaged 0.5 points per game when Norgaard was unavailable due to injury.

7

Kevin Schade

Hit double-digit goals for the first time in his career, also having multiple multiple goal games. Uses his outstanding speed as an offensive weapon, but also works hard to support defensively down the right side.

49.1% shots on target, best among Bees forwards and 13th overall in the Premier League.

8

Mathias Jensen

A difficult season for Jensen with injuries knocking him out for multiple games on 4 separate occasions.

Used as a substitute 16 times and started 8 games.

9

Igor Thiago

Another of Brentford's players who struggled with injuries. The Bees are yet to see his full potential but his energy and enthusiasm are easy to spot, especially when celebrating goals from the sidelines. Brentford will have a new target man next year if he’s able to stay healthy.

175 minutes played across 8 appearances.

10

Josh Dasilva

You've really got to feel for this guy. Another season wiped out due to injury. Please hang in there, Josh.

0 times in the lineup. 0 minutes played.

11

Yoane Wissa

An incredible season for Wissa with 19 goals from open play. A great teammate and unselfish player, great energy and tireless effort both on and off the ball. And that cool handshake celebration that he and Mbeumo perfected over the 39 times the two scored in the league. Wissa again, olé olé.

19 non-penalty goals, 2nd in the Premier League behind Mohamed Salah, tied with Erling Haaland. Best non-penalty expected goals per shot.

12

Hakon Valdimarsson

Only called upon twice in the league, but was there and ready when needed. He kept a clean sheet off the bench and earned his first Premier League start. Good with the ball at his feet. Will surely be looking for more minutes next season.

1 penalty saved in the 82nd minute in the EFL Cup to keep a clean sheet and give Brentford a win against Colchester.

14

Fabio Carvalho

Clear potential, some nice goals. Hopefully he comes back even stronger from his shoulder injury.

Came off the bench 16 times for Brentford, tied for the team lead.

16

Ben Mee

A great professional, but sadly not much playing time this season. Collins and van den Berg made a great pairing and the Bees rarely used 3 in the back in 24-25.

Brentford won 4 of 5 games when Mee came on as a substitute.

18

Yehor Yarmoliuk

A massively improved contribution to the team this season, he earned more and more trust and minutes as the season progressed. He seems to cover entire pitch with his relentless running.

Started 8 of the Bees 9 final matches. Earned a club high 29 points when he came off the bench.

19

Bryan Mbeumo

This was the year that we went from everybody at Brentford knowing him to everybody in football talking about him. 20 goals, reliable penalty taker, non-stop sprinting, supporting defensively and great deliveries on free kicks and corners. Hopefully not his last season at Brentford, but he’ll definitely be in demand over the summer.

Led the Premier League in expected goals outperformance, expected assists and crosses. 2nd in the league for playing time by an outfield player.

20

Kristoffer Ajer

A versatile defender who played every position across the back other than goalkeeper. Early season momentum was disrupted by injuries. He returned to good form in time for the final third of the season and combined well with newcomer Michael Kayode to provide strength and speed on the right side.

27 progressive carries in the attacking end of the pitch.

22

Nathan Collins

Ever-present on the pitch, Collins has played the best football of his career. Calm in the back, he shows an uncanny sense of when to slow things down and keep possession, and when to press forward. Captains his country, consistently reliable and just turned 24. Oh, and that through ball to Schade for his hat trick against Leicester was a thing of beauty.

A perfect 3,420 minutes played, the most for an outfield player. League leading 77 blocks. 2nd in the league for clearances, 3rd for aerials won.

23

Keane Lewis-Potter

He’s played so well at left back, that it's hard to imagine him going back to the wing. However, with Hickey, Henry and Jayden Meghoma healthy and looking for minutes he’ll surely get some time further up the pitch. He's proven to be quite dangerous when he's on the dribble. Perhaps at his best on Mbeumo’s goal of the season, giving defenders a tough time with his agility and two footed passing threat.

50% shots of target (5th in the league) and 98 progressive carries, 2nd best at Brentford.

24

Mikkel Damsgaard

Most surprising player of the year? Most improved? He caught everyone's attention at the start of the season with a burst of assists, and he consistently led the team up the pitch all year. Constantly creative, always looking forward. However, he also proved that he's a great all-round midfielder with solid defensive chops.

In the league top 10 for virtually every passing category. In the top 2-3 at Brentford in key defensive areas like tackles, interceptions and recoveries.

26

Yunus Konak

Not a lot of a team minutes but was dependable when called upon. Turned 19 during the season, so we're looking forward to seeing him get more minutes in the seasons to come.

Available for 36 of Brentford's 38 games.

27

Vitaly Janelt

Continued his partnership with Norgaard for much of the season. Began splitting minutes with Yarmoliuk and eventually had season ending surgery. Great support on the ball and who could forget that left footed rocket he scored against Fulham.

Captained the Bees in the 4 games that Norgaard missed due to injury.

33

Michael Kayode

Great energy and enthusiasm. Stepped into the lineup shortly after joining on loan and quickly became a regular. He showed several strengths including his amazing long throw, speed, willingness to carry the ball into the middle of the pitch and infectious enthusiasm. Still some roughness around the edges, but with so much potential, he seems bound to be a perfect Brentford signing.

Started the final 6 games of the season.
