Early goals from Bryan Mbeumo in both halves helped to lead the Bees to a convincing victory over Brighton.

Let's check the pre-game Correlation FC prediction:

Prediction #1

Brighton will choose their yellow away kit for the game and Brentford will continue their undefeated streak against teams in yellow.

Correct. Brighton chose yellow and the Bees won. 4 wins and no losses this season against teams in yellow. Look out Wolves on the final day of the season.

Prediction #2

If there is a penalty in the game, it will be scored.

Misfire. Though Brighton argued hard for penalties in both halves, none were given or scored.

Trends that continued

Victory assured when Mbeumo and Wissa both score

This was the sixth time this season that Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa have scored in the same game. The Bees are undefeated when both score.

Brentford, on target

The Bees lead the Premier League this season in the Shots on Target percentage category, with nearly 40% of their shots reaching the opponent's goal. They lead or are near the top in several related areas, like goals per shot, goals per shot on target and average shot distance where they are second to Arsenal by mere inches. Against the Seagulls, Brentford kept doing their thing. They fired 16 shots at the net, with 50% of those hitting the target, and 50% of the shots on target going in the net, with an average shot distance well under their season average. It's interesting though that 3 of their 5 longest distance shots scored, those being both of Mbeumo's goals as well as Wissa's.

What was different

Kayode's first start

Michael Kayode made his first Premier League start for the Bees, replacing Kris Ajer at right back. After a few initial wobbles, he played a strong game. It's clear that his speed, strength and fitness will be an asset for the Bees. The team will definitely have some selection headaches when Aaron Hickey returns.

Mbeumo scores with his right foot

Mbeumo's beautiful first half goal started the game off on the right foot for the Bees. Which is unusual, as it was only his second right-footed goal in the Premier League. He's scored 40 goals (and counting) with 38 coming from his trusty left foot, and now 2 from his right. He has not yet scored a headed goal in the Premier League. In his Championship career with the Bees, he scored 24 goals – 5 with his head, 17 with his left foot and 2 with his right. Interestingly, his first and last Championship goals were with his right foot.

KLP subbed off

Keane-Lewis Potter was subbed out of the game, making way for Rico Henry in the 76th minute. This was the first time that "Keano" hasn't played a full game since mid-December at Chelsea.

Flekken vs the wind (and sun)

The game was played on a sunny and windy Saturday afternoon.** Mark Flekken** seemed to be struggling with the wind in the first half, knocking multiple kicks out of bounds over the heads of Lewis Potter and Michael Kayode. He later seemed to regain his control and finished the game with passing numbers right on or around his season averages.

In the second half, he wore a baseball cap while defending the east goal, doing his best to keep the sun out of his eyes. The one goal that he conceded didn't seem to be related to the sun, but rather a perfectly placed shot by Brighton forward Kaoru Mitoma.

6 subs = victory

For the first time in Brentford's Premier League history – and possible entire team history – the team made 6 substitutions in a league game. Thomas Frank had made his fifth sub in the 87th minute, but after a clash of heads late in injury time, both managers made their sixth subs to replace the injured players, presumably under the league's concussion substitution rules. They are undefeated in their league history when making 6 substitutions.
