Empty stadium seats after Brentford's 1-1 draw against Everton on a cold February night in 2025.

About Correlation FC

Correlation FC offers a refreshing view on football. We produce 1 to 2 stories per week that are unapologetically positive, optimistic, occasionally offbeat and always infused with data.

Data is at the heart of our work, but we consider our work more "data entertainment" than "data science". Why? We feel that correlation is more fun than causation. If a player scores three games in a row, why not dream that they'll score in the fourth, rather than definitively analyse the probability that they will. Or that they won't. Football is a game after all, so we try to have some fun with it.

One of the ways that we try to bring more joy to the game is through the way we look at goal contributions. Read more about Correlation FC Goal Contributions.

Brentford focus (mostly)

The original inspiration for Correlation FC came, in part, by the way that Brentford FC meshed their data driven approach with Thomas Frank's unrelenting optimism and the real human-to-human connections he created within the club and the community. The Bees have proven themselves to be different than many other more established clubs at the top of the English football pyramid, and Correlation FC feels that their actions and their approach have been good for the game of football. Much will surely change in the post-Thomas Frank era, but we can be certain that the team will continue to lean on data, and continue to contribute to the local community.

We are joining an already strong community of Brentford supporters with great respect for the passionate fans and well established community builders that were here long before us. We're talking about supporters groups like Bees United and Brentford Independent Association of Supporters (BIAS) and great online resources like Beesotted, The Griffin Park Grapevine, Brentford FC Loyal and BrentfordShirts.com among others.

Our gaze will sometimes drift beyond Brentford and West London's favourite bus stop in Hounslow to look at the Premier League and football more broadly.
